More details in listing descriptions
in progress
Renee @ Pango
We're working hard to make buying and selling on Pango as easy as possible, but we want to hear from you!
We mocked up a potential new space in the listing page to indicate specific attributes or damage (signed copies, underlining, spine crease, etc). The goal is to provide more information about the condition of your listing without needing to type out every detail -- just check a box! While these details would not be required, they would be encouraged.
See some very early screenshots below and let us know what you think. What would you remove or add? Is this too much or too little? Is anything confusing? What questions do you have for the Pango Team regarding this new feature?

I love this idea! I'm constantly putting tags like #specialedition or #signed to try and help my books get found. I'd love to see a checkbox for sprayed edges.

I like this idea a lot. I spend a lot of time trying to assess and describe damage in my descriptions, and with this I won't have to unless it's absolutely needed. Several folks commenting prefer to see photos of the damage, but this type of thing doesn't preclude doing that. Might as well have this option AND photos, then you're solid. If you want to describe the specific types of damage further in the description, you can - nothing stopping a seller from doing that! It's a win-win, and it would help a ton.

I really like this new feature. It’s frustrating to me that so many people don’t mention these types of things in their descriptions. This makes it clearer as a buyer to know what to expect. Since they’re checkboxes, it will be easy as a seller to mark these as well.

Feedback from community members unable to leave comments:
"I love this idea! It will help buyers see book conditions more clearly and hopefully keep sellers honest, especially ones who only post one or two photos and no description. And save time for the ones who do add descriptions."
"Love this! Adding something for scribbles on pages/cover interior could be helpful since I’ve had that on 2 different books I’ve ordered, though I’m not sure if it’s common enough across the board to make it one of the options."

I love this! Being able to provide additional info, the better.

I love this idea. Condition categories can sometimes feel vague and/or subjective - some readers don’t care about scuffs or dents but can’t stand dog eared pages. Some listers may have a book in pristine condition, except a name plate. This would be great to help find exactly what you’re looking for and decide what flaws are acceptable when purchasing.

For this is perfect since I have a book listed and it’s annotated, it would help a lot of potential buyers know the exact condition of the book!

I think these are great ideas. I recently received a set of books that the person told me she accidentally purchased two sets of, but her library seal was pressed into the pages. Something like that for special editions would turn me away. I will say that I'm not sure sellers would take the time to fill all of this out because these are items that would decrease the value of the book in some cases. First and special editions, heck yeah. Feature away and let me search by that!

I really love this idea! As someone who types out everything that could be an issue to a buyer, i appreciate how precise this is! My only thing that I would hope wouldn’t be a problem, would be people not posting as many listing photos, but I think that could be solved by the buyers and sellers messaging each other if that was an issue!
